A free guide from Paul

Start Here: AI in Plain Words

Maybe you've opened ChatGPT, typed something in and thought, okay, now what? This short guide walks you through one real job from your own week. Give it about 15 minutes. You'll finish with a draft you checked yourself and a prompt you can use again tomorrow morning.

It's a free PDF and it comes to your inbox. I won't sell or share your address.

Paul Nykamp, founder of FieldKit
Hi, I'm Paul. Grab a coffee and let's get to work.

Why I wrote this

For about 20 years I owned and ran small businesses. Twelve of them, all told, from retail and food service to a coffee shop, ice cream and chocolate shops, and vending routes.

The one thing I learned? Most owners aren't short on ideas. They're short on time.

I earned a certificate in AI automation from LSU, and the useful part was simple. The email you've been putting off and the schedule you build every week are exactly the kind of busywork AI can draft for you. You still read it and you still decide. You just get home a little earlier.

So I wrote the guide I wish someone had handed me. No tech jargon and no hype.

People first, AI second, progress always.

Here's what you'll be holding

Thirteen pages. Print them, scribble on them, or copy the prompts straight into your assistant.

Your first 15 minutes page
Starter prompt sheet page
Your first AI task worksheet
Start with page 5. Reading about AI teaches you less than one honest try.
The prompts use made up businesses, so swap in your own facts.
A plain explanation of what AI is good at. And where it trips people up, like filling a gap with a price you never set.
The five-part brief. It's how I'd brief a new hire on day one, and it fixes most bad answers.
A 15 minute quick win. Minute by minute, with practice facts so nothing real is on the line.
A two minute check before anything goes out. Plus the fix up prompts I reach for when a draft misses.
Starter prompts for a café, a retail shop and a service business. Copy, paste, change the brackets.
A one page worksheet for your first AI task. Plan it, run it, save it.
Owner's Time Audit page
Daily Field Map page
Tucked in the back

Two tools to go with it

The Owner's Time Audit. Five days and one sheet of paper. You write down where the week actually goes, interruptions included, and then you tag each task. Nobody else has to see it, which is the only reason it works.

The Daily Field Map. Five quick checks, once in the morning and again before you call it a night. It keeps the day pointed at what matters.

Do the audit first. It'll tell you which job to hand to AI.

Who I wrote it for

Owners who are busy running the place. You might have a café, a shop, a service business or something else entirely. You've heard plenty about AI and you'd like one practical thing you can try today, without putting your customers' or your team's information at risk. If that sounds like you, you're in the right place.

A few questions people ask

Is it really free?

Yes. Put in your name and email and the PDF lands in your inbox.

I'm not a tech person. Will I keep up?

If you can send an email, you can do this. I wrote every step in plain words.

Which AI tool do I need?

Any general AI assistant will do. The way of asking in the guide works across tools.

Is it safe to put my business information in?

The guide shows you what never goes in and how to swap names for roles like "Customer A." The practice example uses made up facts, so you can learn without touching real data.

What happens after I sign up?

You get the guide by email, and now and then a note from me when I've written something worth your time. You can unsubscribe whenever you like.
